It's about that time of the year... Yes, that's right- it's the Great Singapore Sales, GSS. This year, the sales will start from 28th May to 25 Jul 2010 about 2 months. Try to be patience if you don't need to spend now. Wait till the start of the GSS and then go around for your shopping spree. I'm sure you will end up saving lots more from the sales. Most of the participating retailers and the sales are genuine, so worth going for as some of them go as low as 70% discounts... :)

Have you tried Milani from US? This is an affordable brand with huge product varieties, targeted for the eyes, face, lips and nails. You can get this product from John Little.

Personally, i like the below 3 new products.

This is the Powder Mosaics Multi Color Blush. There are 6 shades available, ranging from pink, orange to the brownish tone. Weigh 0.317g. This blusher gives great bronzing and brightness effects. Excellent to bring up the healthy glow or contour on your cheeks.

3D Glitzy glamour Gloss, comes in 7 shades. 3.48g. Excellent in giving the illusion of a 3D depth on your lips. It has shiny polymer contents ensuring fuller and sexier lips. 7 shades covering colors from pale pink, orange to darker pink like plum.
To match the lip gloss and blusher above, you can go for another of their product- Color Brilliance Eye pencil. 1.54g. Cool, as it comes in 4 shades (Black, Aqua, Green and Purple). Easy to match dependent on your eyeshadow and makeup. The texture of this pencil is moist and silky smooth so it makes it easy to apply. It is pretty long lasting as well. Try it.

New Sephora Outlet in Great World City (Singapore)

Are you a big fans for Sephora?

If yes, you must be informed that they have setup yet another outlet in Singapore at Great World City apart from the two other outlets in Orchard ION and Takashimaya (Ngee Ann City).

This new retail store is located on level one, near to Zara and opposite the Hush Puppies outlet. As usual, you will find a lot of varieties on skin care, makeup, body care, makeup tools and accessories there. Of course, there are also Sephora's own branding for cosmetics (like powder, eyeshadow, lipsticks, mascara, accessories and etc) that you can choose from.  Happy shopping and you don't burn a big hole in your pocket like me, yah! :)

Although many of you may find Great World City is bit far off (that is not near to train station) but it really doesn't matter at all because being situated in Kim Seng, it is very near to the city and there are many residential areas (no matter near to neighbourhood people or to the River Valley condominiums) as well as offices around. I'm sure their business will be as good as the other two outlets

Remedies for acne

It's almost mid year and the weather in Singapore is so so hot. We are experiencing at least 35degreeC here each day. I'm not sure is it because of the weather or my hormones changes (yes, the usual time just before the monthly period), my face is currently down with quite a fair bit of spots or acne. Gosh, this is frustrating, men!

I kept the remedies for acne - simple. Many can be considered traditional means and to me it is pretty workable:
1- Drink lots of water (this is useful as water helps to flush out the toxic in our body, cleanse our body system and improve skin)
2- If your pimples or acne are severe, try visiting a doctor. They may prescribe you antibiotics and this helps to reduce inflame and reduce oil production that in turns help to control the acne or blemishes.
3- Use the correct skin care products and skin care steps to take care or maintain your face. Choose the right skin care products for your cleansing, toning and moisturising. If you have oily skin, go for oil free products. Never wear makeup to sleep no matter how tired you are.
4- Food- choose lots of fruits and vegetables. Reduce intakes for sugar, deep fried or spicy food.
5- Exercise- Do exercise, if possible. It helps to reduce your stress and increase blood flow thereby boosting your skin texture.
6- Invest and get a suitable acne gel, lotion and cream that can dry up the pimples.

Worth trying if you have acne problems...

Cure for Acne or Blemishes- Try Aloe Vera!

Acne occurs when hair follicles or pores become either inflamed or clogged with oil and dirty. It can show up anywhere on the body. However, it tends to be most concentrated on the chest, face, shoulders, neck and back. In some cases, the glands manufacture more oil than is needed. Other times oil and/or dirt from an individual’s hands or hair may also clog up the pores. This results in pimples, blackheads and/or whiteheads.

Acne is not a problem that only teenagers deal with. Adults also have issues with acne. In fact, in terms of sheer numbers, there are a greater number of adults who suffer from acne then there are teenagers.

There are various home remedies that are pretty effective in dealing with acne. A few of them include using rubbing garlic or onion on the face. Grapefruit seed extract is another natural remedy that is good for getting rid of bacteria on the face that can cause acne. You simply need to add about 2 drops into 4 ounces of water and wipe it on the face as you would an astringent.

Aloe Vera is also a very good way to treat acne. It helps to fight infections that sometimes occur within the pimple itself or on the skin. It also helps to calm and reduce pimples and scars which often occur when someone is having an acne outbreak.

Aloe Vera is safe for most people and doesn’t have any known side effects. Therefore, an individual can use it as long they need to. It will help clear up the skin and will aid in diminishing the appearance of scars. Aloe Vera can dry the skin out, so make sure that you use a moisturizer if you have a problem with dry skin.

Aloe Vera can be used to clean the skin. If you have an actual plant, then break off a leaf, take the pulp and rub it in your skin then rinse it off with water. Individuals can use an actual Aloe Vera plant or they can purchase Aloe Vera products, which come in the form of soaps and gels.

Aloe Vera is also available in juice form. When ingested, it will help to improve the skin from the inside out because it’s very nutritious. It is great for improving elastin, and repairing collagen, both which will help your skin look beautiful.

Roughly every three weeks, the skin begins to replenish its’ cells. Aloe Vera can help decrease the effects of aging during this process because it will provide your body with the nutrients that it needs. We tend to age worse when we eat poorly. This is because our bodies are not getting all of the vitamins and nutrients that it requires. When we consume the nutrients that we need, sure our bodies, including our skin, look younger and fresher.

Best Pencil Eyeliner from Christina Dior

Christina Dior has an excellent pencil eyeliner series- Crayon Eyeliner Pencil. It is one of the best pencil eyeliner that I've used so far. It is long lasting on my eyelids (I've tried for slightly more than 12 hours) and image after a long day, it does not even never smudge to dirty your makeup or under the eye areas. The eyeliner make up is still very clean and neat. Remember this not a waterproof eyeliner pencil. Isn't this wonderful?

It comes in 5 color tones: black, voilet, taupe, green and khaki. Among all, I like the khaki (brown) one because the color is never too "hard". It is natural and can be used in most occassions like at work or for causal.

Retail price at S$33, size: 0.04oz.

In terms of texture, it is excellent ! Very smooth and easy to apply and spread over the eyelids. No awful smell as well. It has a semi matte appearance unlike the liquid eyeliner that may look quite artifical.

If you want to create a natural look, you may use the blend tip on the pencil below to blend the hard lines of what is drawn earlier. Start to buy it now...

Prefect Mascara from Lancome

Do you find it tough to remove 'waterproof' mascara from your eyelashes? Or, sometimes do you face smudges from mascara that is termed to be 'waterproof'?

Lancome has come up with a good range of non- waterproof mascara that is worth buying. That is -Virtuose Precious Cells. Retail price at S$49 (6.5g) and comes in 4 colors range. Personally, i like the brown tone because it is more natural as compared to the black color tone.

It may be pricey than what you get out from the normal brands but this one does not smudge despite long long hours of wear or very suitable for oily eyelids or sensitive skins.

Moreover, this range gives great lengthening effects on your eyelashes particularly the corners of your eyelashes. All thanks to the design of the mascara brush tip and holding handler. With this curvature tip design, you can be go over your eyelash with minimum efforts and stress. The texture of this mascara is also smooth and dry up easier. It is non smelly too.

In terms of cleaning, it is easy and quick. All you need is an eye makeup remover either oil based or liquid based. No hassle and worry of using harsh cleaners or strong cleanser because it can come off so quickly with no efforts or strength need. Cool !

One of the best mascara in the market that gives great volume and thickening eyelashes. Definitely worth to try if you don't mind a slightly high end mascara. :)

Safety Precautions When Using Your Eye Makeup Products

Eye cosmetics have been an important part in history for women, and especially for men who have enjoyed looking at them. Women throughout the ages have worn them to accentuate certain features of their eyes. However, more and more women today are experiencing problems related to the use of rimel and eyeliner. These problems can range from minor irritation to serious infections. The most common make-up related injury happens when the cornea is scratched with a mascara applicator. This commonly happens when women try to apply mascara when they are driving and an unexpected bump in the road jars them causing them to scratch their cornea with the bristle applicator. Sometimes this leads to an infection. Rimel applicators are notorious for harboring bacteria introduced from the process of application and reapplication. Our skin and hair follicles, no matter how clean, harbor microorganisms that may cause infection.

How to keep cosmetics from becoming contaminated?
Products are usually pure when purchased. Contamination however can be introduced into them as they are being used. Fungi and bacteria oftentimes grow in cosmetic containers. Keep your jars tightly closed and do not leave them in your car or in the hot sun. Always reinsert your eyelash wand back into the dip tube, and never lay it down on any surface for even an instant. Instead of dipping fingers to retrieve a moisturizing cream, a small clean spatula should always be used especially for eye cosmetics. Even though these formulations contain strong preservatives to retard bacterial growth, studies show that contamination does occur. If infection results, immediate medical attention should be sought or else serious complications may result. Also never share your cosmetic products with anyone else.

This may sound selfish, but actually this is a protection to you and your friend. Everyone harbors different types of bacteria and our own bodies may be able to cope with a certain bacteria that we may have. But when you share products, you introduce each other to perhaps intolerable new strains of bacteria. Department stores have various testers put out for the public to try. People commonly dip their unwashed fingers in creams and introduce bacteria. Refrain from trying these and ask your store attendant to furnish you with perhaps a personal sample. Request single use applicators such as q-tips or cosmetic spatulas. Use products only for their intended use. Lip liners should never be used for the eyes. Bacteria from the mouth can infect the eye area. In this way you will avoid even slight irritation, redness and watering that is so prevalent with the use of these products.

What to do for sensitive eyes?
Sometimes it is wise to completely discontinue use of any cosmetics around the eye area and you may need to see an optometrist to determine if you may have an inflammation of the eyelid. When your sensitivity diminishes, find products with no fragrances and perhaps a chemical-free cosmetic. Switching to dry cosmetics and water soluble mascara has also helped many women to lessen irritation. Try to avoid lash building and thickening mascara. These formulations contain particles which are brittle and often flake away into the eye area. Polymer based mascaras tend to not be as brittle and do not flake off as readily into the eye.

Advantages of eye liner pencils
Eye shadow powders and eyeliner pencils cause less irritation because dry substances do not need so many preservatives and chemicals to formulate them. These pencils however should be kept sharp. Firstly because eyeliner that has been exposed to the air for a long time may harbor bacteria and it may become harder when exposed to air, necessitating more pressure to be applied during application. Secondly, so that the outer casing, which can be very sharp, has no chance of coming close to scratching the eye area.

If the eyes are considered to be the most important part of the body, and mascara the most important cosmetics product - then wisely accentuate the positive and really get noticed.
